The Snowball: Warren Buffet And The Business of Life - Alice Schroeder
A number of authors have written on the life of the legendary billionaire investor, but based on several reviews I found non as fascinating and authentic as this one written by the former insurance analyst, Alice Schroeder. The book reveals Buffet's business philosophy right from his very first investment at the tender age of Eleven, when he bought his first stock shares. The chronicle continues up into the time he became a billionaire. His avid reading of 700-1000 (YES! Seven Hundred to a Thousand) book pages per day and as well his books recommendations are all encompassed within the chapters of this biography. It's really an absorbing good read, spanning over 900 pages on paper. Thou what I read was an eBook on my phone (you can imagine the tiny writing and the page numbers going well above two thousand), it really strained my eyes.
From this book I first learnt about Charlie Munger, Warren's mentor, investment model and later his partner. The same way I came across The Intelligent Investor (authored by Benjamin Graham). Another book I now own and never intend to read in like forever years.
Just one important thing to note is that the book is not a how-to book nor does it provide tips for becoming a billionaire. Rather, it is a narrative of the ups and downs of a great investor, business tycoon and a philanthropist.
Upshot:
One must strive and commit to continue learning everyday.
Grab every opportunity to develop and impart knowledge on others unendingly.
The need to give back to the society a.k.a. philanthropy.
Self discipline is the most valuable possession one can acquire.
Focus, intense discipline and passion yield positive results.
