Dear God… Let This Exam Be As Kind As I’ve Been To My Students

After more than a decade in the academia, I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed almost every part of the profession be it teaching, mentoring students, interactive classroom discussions, projects supervision, and those beautiful moments when a student finally understands a difficult concept. Well almost every part… except one. Marking examination scripts...   Many lecturers already knows this struggle. Those tall piles of answer sheets staring back at you like they have a personal grudge... Often containing handwritings that look like footballers autographs, so difficult to read.  At some point you begin to wonder whether you are marking an exam script or trying to decode ancient manuscripts newly discovered by archaeologists from the times of Tsumburbura and Barbushe.  Then comes the internal debate between “Did the student really understand this?” and “Maybe I should give some marks for effort, for grammar, for neatness, etc” aka "let my people go."  Wel...

DON'T MARRY FOR MOMY & DADY PLEASE!

I wish I knew from the start that growing up was a trap. To be trapped in a place where one virtually has to do everything for himself. This includes material, non-material and even making life changing decisions. Surely i wouldn't have run away from it, but i would have prepared myself to do for the many others that are too lazy to fend for themselves. But unfortunately that's not how life works.

Many adults i am coming across this days are still living the fantasies of their childhood days. Of course you can ask how i came about this conclusion. Truth is, how could one (an adult) be thinking of getting married when he's still being taken care of by his parents exactly the same way they did while at the age of 10 or 15. One is a so called graduate yet still earns pocket money from Dady, while Momy helps with topping-up the phone. Even the very vehicle he uses daily is being fueled by them. To make things worst, they even buy the materials and pay for sewing his sallah dresses. Haba dan Allah!

So Bros your financial support/assistance in the family is basically ZERO. Somebody needs to get a life please, i am not influenced by any western culture abeg. The truth should be told and we must face it. Allow Momy and Dady to have some breathing space, don't add to their burdens by getting a partner you can't even carter for yourself.

Have a lovely Sunday.
